  18. <p>    Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister ad infinitum, quit? Not
  19. yet, but maybe sooner than some dared hope. Last week Thatcher
  20. announced that she would not stand for a fifth consecutive term
  21. in office. She told the London weekly Sunday Correspondent she
  22. would lead the Conservative Party into the next election,
  23. likely to be held in 1991, but after that there "will be plenty
  24. of people who can take over."

  26. <p>    Thatcher plainly wanted to stop speculation that she might
  27. resign in the wake of the resignation of Chancellor of the
  28. Exchequer Nigel Lawson.
